What We Offer
Spiritual, social, educational and leadership services offered by KCYM Latin State for Catholic youth across all 12 dioceses of Kerala.
Since 1978
A legacy of faith and fire - born in Mannanam, carried across every coast and highland of Kerala, and kept alive by generations of Latin Catholic youth who chose to lead, serve, and transform.
The spirit of Catholic youth action - nurtured in the heart of the Archdiocese of Verapoly - crystallised into a historic milestone at Mannanam with the birth of the Kerala Catholic Youth Movement. Sri Antony Ambatt led the way as the first State President, laying the very bedrock of the movement.
The flame was kept alive by visionary leaders including Sri Joy Gothuruth and Sri Joseph Jude, whose dedication transformed a fledgling idea into a monumental force for change. Rising above the boundaries of three Rites, KCYM became a powerful prophetic voice - present in bold social interventions, gruelling hunger strikes for justice, and deep intellectual formation, from the misty highlands to the sun-drenched coastal belts.
As KCYM's reach expanded, the Syro-Malabar and Syro-Malankara churches chose to establish their own independent youth wings. The Latin Church made a unique and prestigious choice - to remain the steadfast custodians of the KCYM banner, honouring the movement's original spirit and keeping it closest to their hearts.
To better serve the specific pastoral needs of the Latin community while honouring their heritage, a 12-member Latin Youth Council was established, guided by the vision of Sri Sony Pavelil and Sri Shine Antony. This was a decisive step towards a structure built for the Latin Church's unique identity.
Under the KRLCBC, the movement briefly transitioned as LCYM, led by a President from the Diocese of Kochi and General Secretary Emmanuel Michael. Though a transitional phase, it reinforced the movement's pastoral ties to the bishops' council and prepared the ground for a fuller reclamation of identity.
The true homecoming arrived in 2018 during the presidency of Ajith Thankachan Kanappilly. In a defining moment of historical reclamation, the organisation officially embraced the title KCYM Latin. This was more than a name change - it was a vow to protect our roots. Today, our journey remains a living testament to unwavering dedication to youth empowerment, social justice, and Catholic unity.
